During our third year Media course we were put into groups and asked to create a Virtual Reality experience. I was in a group with Giulia Blake and Jaelyn Johnson. The entire class brainstormed ideas and then each group chose one and redefined it to make it educational. The idea my group chose was a Virtual Toybox. In order to make it educational we had the setting be in Nazi, Germany during the Holocaust. When entering the game the user embodies a child, named Abel, and you are placed in his room to explore his toys and learn about how the children would play during this time.

Research and Process

Research of Toys

General Research

Research of the Area

My main focus on the projects was to find all of the sounds for all of the interactions, edit them, and apply them to the project. Here is all of the sounds that I had organized that I needed to find.

Screenshots From Final Environment

We created the environment in Unity to be used on an Oculus. The environment itself is the boy’s bedroom including his bed, a toy box where you will find the toys you can interact with, a chess board, a radio playing music from the time period, and a desk with paper and crayons that the user can pick up and color with. Whenever the user interacts with an object they will hear the voice of the boy giving some context as to what it is.
