Thesis Statement

Creating a cohesive digital platform for managing fitness goals, tracking nutrition, connecting resources, and balancing wellness for athletes of all levels.

Research

This project was very research heavy. I wanted to design something that was actually needed and included lots of feedback from research participants. The research methods I chose were Interviews, a survey, a collaboration brainstorming activity, and independent research on competing platforms.

I used this board to organize my research, progress, and design ideas throughout the entire process.

Design Concepts

After I finished my research, I used it to brainstorm different Final Deliverables for my project. Ultimately I decided on an app platform that allows the users to track all of their fitness goals in one cohesive space rather than having to download multiple apps to do so. I also decided to integrate a Social Media platform into the same app that was more trustworthy than what most of my research participants were finding on Social Media currently. For my Secondary Deliverables I chose to include Merchandise and a Collaboration with OSU’s RPAC.

Once my design concepts were presented I began the Design process. This project in a continuation of a previous project, so I began by analyzing my designs from that project.

While the layout from my previous project worked, it needed to be developed further and cleaned up. When conducting my research I had multiple participants express that they liked inspirational/ exciting branding elements for fitness brands. I felt that this project wasn’t as exciting as I could have made it considering my original goal was to create a layout that organized a lot of information into one small space.

The next stage was to take the feedback from my research and what I had gathered from my previous project to create mood boards. I made two, one that was focused on self care and personal wellness, and another that was more focused on exercise and more exciting. After receiving some feedback from my peers I chose the latter. I was inspired to use different textures and brighter colors to make my app more engaging.

Once I had evaluated my previous project I started the next phase by recreating the new Branding Guidelines. I kept some elements from the last project, but chose a new color palette that was more exciting and cleaned up the mark. I also changed the name of the brand to “SUM”. I found inspiration for this name from my interview with the Personal Trainer. He had mentioned that it would be really beneficial for his clients to see a sum of all of their goals for the day with the goal of reaching a 100% by completing all of the daily goals individually. The new concept for my app was built around this idea.

Once the Brand Guidelines were established I was able to begin working on the Wireframes. I started with some sketches to get a feel for the basic layout, and then I created B&W versions of the Wireframes to make sure the layout was working before I began applying the branding.

After multiple rounds of feedback I finalized the Wireframes, created Merch using my Branding, and created a Mock-Up of a promotional pop-up booth within Ohio State’s RPAC.
